End of half/timeout logic

By Ole_from_MN

I'm posting this in the bug section of the forum because I've seen this happen many times and I truly believe it is a flaw in the clock management logic of the game. First, here is the link to the clock management in question: http://mfn8.myfootballnow.com/watch/871#167064

This is the end of the half in my week 9 game at Dallas. We have the ball in Dallas territory with :47 left in the first half, and we have all 3 timeouts remaining. We complete a pass inbounds to the Dallas 13 yard line, but instead of calling timeout and getting another play or two to try to score a touchdown, the FG unit runs out onto the field with no time out called. On the next play, as the clock ticks down from :03 to :02 left in the half, we kick a FG.

This is not right. When a team has a opportunity to score a TD before halftime and has all three time outs left, I can't think of a justifiable scenario where the team doesn't try to maximize the possession and use the timeouts to try to get 6 points instead of three. Unless I am oblivious to some setting that controls this, I wish to report this as a bug and hope that it might be investigated further.

Thanks,
Ole

Had I spent a couple minutes reading the forum, I'd see that this appears to be addressed. So, please accept my post as further documentation of the bug that appears to be fixed in a future release.

Thanks, have a great day.

It's not fixed in the future version.

The clock management is still awful in the newest release.

Good to know. Thanks for pointing that out Thor. Perhaps it will be soon? Hopefully. That could potentially ruin our future gaming experience. It's quite puzzling when your team takes those time outs to the locker room when they could have been useful to possibly score more points.

The AI will play conservatively at the end of the half if you are in field goal range to take the points rather than risk a turnover with enough time for the other team to score. This is probably something that should be passed on to you as the owner to decide - i.e. if you have a strong offense you will want to be aggressive, but if you have a poor offense you might prefer to take the points.

The clock management that has been updated has more to do with the end of the game logic not leaving enough time on the clock for the other team to score if you are in position to get the go-ahead field goal; in the previous version you would score as quickly as possible and often times the other team had plenty of time to score and win the game.

I would love to have the ability to control this. Recently I had a situation where I completed a pass for a first down at the 2 yard line with 35 seconds left in the half, and all 3 timeouts. The next play was a FG attempt with 2 seconds on the clock.

It was very frustrating to say the least.

I like the idea of somehow giving control of the end of first half clock management to the team owner. For example, likelihood of using timeouts within 2:00 remaining in half, or a slider/sliders that determine likelihood of going for TD or FG, perhaps based on score difference. I'm sure you will determine a suitable method of implementing this. Thanks for your response.
