There are two ways to think of the West Coast Offense.

1. Think of Bill Walsh, the 1980 to 1995 San Francisco 49ers. Joe Montana and Steve Young as the QBs. Highly effective, highly efficient. Lots of Wins, lots of Super Bowl Rings. Smart QB Play with quick, efficient passes. Lot's of short stuff, relying on QB Accuracy to lead a Receiver so he can Catch and get Yards After the Catch (YAC). Precise Routes by Receivers to get clean separation.

2. The Current Cleveland Browns, since their Return to the NFL to now. We've pretty much tried (and failed) to be a West Coast Offense through every single regime, except for the Butch Davis Years.

Now the thing is, when MOST people say 'He is a West Coast QB' what they are REALLY saying is... (1) he has no arm strength and (2) he probably sucks. It's a Rare QB that is a Great WCO QB. The Offense doesn't rely on a super strong arm, but to many QBs with no arm have been gifted a Job Starting on a WCO to fail miserably.

You can pick anywhere in the draft and come out fine if you have a concrete plan and draft smart. I get where you're coming when it comes to picking in the middle but i also like that each day the draft starts and i can narrow down my first pick and know i will get him. It's all up to the owner i guess :)

It's nice to get a guy you really want to build around, but in a Start Up Draft there is so much talent everywhere that you can wait and still get a huge Stud. I went to the 7th Round before I had to take a Player below a 90.

While you get your Position/Player 100% at Pick 1.1, it's that Pick 2.32 that bothers me, because then you're really at the mercy of the Draft. Obviously good planning and not freaking out can still make this successful, but your Options become limited much faster.

The good thing is having that Pick 3.1, especially if you can 'tie it in' with your 1.1 or 2.32, like QB/WR, or DE/DE, or CB/CB, Positions that rely on each other like QB/WR and Position Groups where you can get Two Starters on each half of the Field (2 Pass Rushing DE "Book Ends" or Two 'Shut Down CB') and if not the Outside then the Middle, like SS/MLB, or MLB/DT.

Because usually they will be Rated very similar and of a similar Age, so you can pretty much set and forget those spots.

Don't get me wrong, you absolutely can smash a Draft from any position (and I've always said of the NFL, if you need the #1 Over All Pick to do your job, you can't do your job. It's my creed against Tanking for a higher pick... if you NEED the higher pick, you don't have the skill to effectively USE the higher pick. A real Catch 22 for a lot of Real Life GMs). Of course it's a bit different on a Video Game.

Ya that's why i think it's really important to get your weights dialed in cause a player in the mid to late rounds might be perfect for your style and draft position won't matter if he's rated much lower to others. I have done two allocation drafts (68 and 70) and was very happy with the outcomes. The only problem with the allocation drafts is the time constraints. It is very time consuming and with vacations coming up it is a tough proposition.

Ah never mind - gone with carolina as I liked their coaches and I'm them in Mfn65. Figured I'll be the first to get 2 players and 4 players etc.
Might be just an experimental bit of fun

If you want that elite young HB you probably better be drafting high in round 1. The other thing in allocation drafts is that the top DE and DB talent will fly off the board in the first couple rounds if there are a lot of experienced owners in the league.

Many ways to run a club and build a roster. During the last nine seasons in MFN-7, I've had only 3 first rd selections, 1.24, 1.32 and 1.32. Yet I've been reasonably successful. Look for players in lower rds and on the waiver list with attributes that compliment your system and you'll do reasonably well.

I agree with this, although at times it is nearly impossible to know which attributes actually have an impact on in-game performance.

Some of the obvious ones you would think of don't seem to do much in the game.
