Waste of TE?

By Lamba

So I'm at the point where I'm just about giving up on getting good results from my TEs. I'm thinking it's a result of "everyone" playing coverage LBs who are as fast and specialized in this one job.

That guy should, imo, come down with far more ***** than he does. When looking at his skills, turning him into either a RB or WR, he should dominate and get 85+ speed as well.

Would you change his position?

I had the best te the league has seen before him, but even then couldn't get really good production, compared to that of journeyman WRs.

Sadly, this is old news to me. :-(

I've read both those and I still haven't really gotten my TE going. They get a bunch of targets, but fail to come down with the ball.

I have a couple of teams where all of my TE's have <50% catch rate. It's probably in our play selection, though I haven't tried to figure out which plays might be causing it.

I can recognize most of the plays in the topics Punisher linked. I've run or am running quite a few of them, as you can see by the amount of targets Lilley gets in my games.

He's just not coming down with them and, with no disrespect to other leagues, as I don't know them, but I really do think it has more to do with the competition than the plays. AGS has, more or less, always been full of humans who tinker to optimize their chances of winning. For all the time I've played, that's meant coverage LB's.

I mainly made this topic, because I'm considering turning him into a WR and change my playselection around so the TE's role is more to create space for WR's and RB's, than to get the catch themselves... if possible.

If everyone's defenses are stopping the pass all around, I need to find out how to hit them hardest with the chances I have. :)

Small sample size, but since being moved to WR, Lilley have had much better recieving stats (actually catching the ***** thrown his way). I wonder why TE's are supposed to have such a hard time holding on to *****...

My best seasons come from wrs playing te. Blocking stats go down , but it like rb...what not have a wr play there to up the stats . Do you want to be a smash mouth team or an air raid stlye team?

I don't think one is better that the other but 4.5 has a bunch of things that makes it harder throw the ball . It's like driving an offense through the wr 1...not that it won't work but it is harder than using wr2 plays .

Beta had 7 guys get over ten targets a game. Catch% is up a bit but the same trend is there for te play. Better but it still has too many forced reads their way.

Neither. I want a balanced team.

I will use rb or fb at te...it's all about creating mismatches on the right plays. If we could set a desired goal for the players weight then I wouldn't have to change positions at all. Alot of the time I make guys smaller when they are young and when speed drops I move them to a bigger position with a later retirement point.

The stlyes all blend in the end but when talent is lacking alot of various styles will work better than others .

One team we had young developing TEs who boomed . They were a bit slow so we removed all passes with TEs going out. On top of that we drafted all wrs so pass blocking was a premium in this scheme that had everyone going out on every play .

Definitely not balanced , but it won us a playoff game. The next season we put our star wr at te and he got a 60%+ catch percentage and nearly 1000 yards. This was with completely different plays and still only won 1 play off game.

Balance is key in 4.5. But you can win games with different approaches under this code...as long as you have speed.

I have no problem getting good production from TEs playing them as TEs: https://mfn19.myfootballnow.com/player/10838

Even bad ones:
